We’re recruiting production and design interns to support a hip hop podcast project this summer.
Podcast Producer
This internship is part of a project to create a limited series music podcast highlighting hip hop artists in Edmonton. The intern’s main task will be conducting interviews, hosting, and helping edit the series. This work will be conducted together with a team of volunteers (remotely). This is a 5 hour commitment per week from May – July 2021.
The internship will be supervised by CJSR Podcasting Coordinator Chris Chang-Yen Phillips, and will have opportunities for personal mentorship in audio journalism, production, and other areas of interest.
At the end of this internship, the Podcast Producer will receive a $500 honorarium.
Ideal for someone with course work in:
- Arts and Cultural Management
- Arts
- English
- Communication and Culture

- Radio Television and Broadcast News
- Journalism
Some specialized skills required:
- Educational or professional background in communications is an asset
- Experience using audio editing software (eg Logic Pro, Hindenburg, Audacity), iTunes, Word and Google Docs
- Prior experience volunteering with CJSR is an asset
- Enthusiasm, curiosity, reliability, and a strong work ethic is required
- Experience in audio recording or editing is an asset
What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:
- Research featured artists to prep for podcast interviews
- Guide volunteer team towards common vision of podcast aesthetics and quality
- Conduct interviews
- Select tape highlights
- Write scripts and record hosting for episodes
- Oversee edits conducted by volunteer team members

Design Intern
This internship is part of a project to create a limited series music podcast highlighting hip hop artists in Edmonton. The main focus of the internship will be to develop and produce content for CJSR promotional use including print and digital designs. This position will provide diverse experience producing high-profile materials in a variety of areas. The intern will develop and strengthen skills relating to event and artistic documentation, and high-profile opportunities to publish work.
This is a 5 hour commitment per week from May – July 2021. At the end of this internship, the Design Intern will receive a $500 honorarium.
Ideal for someone with course work in:
- Digital Illustration and Comic Art
- Graphic Communications and Print Technology
- Graphic Design
- Design
- Communication and Media Studies
- Marketing
- Digital Communications and Media
- Visual Arts and Design
Some specialized skills required:
- Creativity
- Graphic design and layout experience is an asset
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude
- Motivated, flexible, committed, and have an interest in the arts and/or the non-profit industry
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Google Sheets, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
What we will accomplish at the end of the Internship:
- Build on existing brand identity for CJSR podcast projects
- Produce original logo for podcast
- Design digital and print ads for show
- Produce Facebook banners and Instagram posts for show
- Develop show banners for CJSR.com
- Other design tasks for CJSR as assigned
